Community Playthings in the Canadian Museum of Nature Ottawa

Creating Spaces for Exploration at the Canadian Museum of Nature

Community Playthings has long been a popular choice for museums, galleries, and exhibit spaces.

The Canadian Museum of Nature has been using the Community Playthings classroom tables and Woodcrest Chairs in special exhibits and hands-on programs to create inviting, functional spaces where visitors can gather, create, and engage more deeply with exhibit experiences.

A member of the Canadian Museum of Nature team shared their enthusiasm for Community Playthings: “The furniture is a huge glow-up from the banged-up folding tables and banquet chairs we were using previously… it looks so warm and natural in the space!”

In the past, visitors of the museum used Community Playthings tables and seating in the Rewilding: The David Suzuki Art Prize exhibit to experiment and play with techniques inspired by one of the featured artists. In this case, it was Laara Cerman’s Fallen Tree, New Life!

More recently, Canadian Museum of Nature uses Community Playthings in the Wild Colour exhibit. This exhibit explores the beauty and science of how living things use colour to communicate, attract, and survive. The temporary exhibition features eight immersive colour zones showcasing nearly 200 specimens, accompanied by short audio stories and family-friendly, hands-on activities.
